Tanzania Bans Plastic Bags

As an attempt to protect the environment and reduce pollution, Tanzania introduces a ban on the use of single-use plastic bags.

Tanzania will be one of the 60 other countries that have banned, partly banned or taxed single-use plastic bags, including China, France, Kenya, Rwanda and Italy.

With Effect from 01 June 2019, all passengers arriving at any Tanzania Airport including Tourists can possibly face very heavy fines for using PLASTIC BAGS. This will include zip lock plastic bags that airlines use for keeping fluids, cosmetics, toiletries, etc. Passengers are requested to leave these before disembarking their respective flights.

Visitors / Citizens and residents should also avoid packing any plastic bags in their Suitcases or in hand luggage before flying to Tanzania. Items that are purchased at the airport which are in plastic bags should be removed before boarding.

All passengers are requested to recheck all luggage’s before flying and before disembarking the plane at any entry point, this includes Zanzibar. All plastic bags should be left on the Aircraft.
